Pastoral journey of Mons. Fernando Ocáriz to Latin America

During July and August, Bishop Fernando Ocáriz will travel to Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, to be with faithful and friends of Opus Dei. The visit takes place within the framework of the 50th anniversary of the trip that Saint Josemaría made to several Latin American countries.

In 1974 Saint Josemaría wanted to undertake a trip to Latin America to be with his daughters and sons. It was the first time that the founder set foot on the American continent. The impact was great, both for him and for the expansion of the message of Opus Dei throughout the world.

After 50 years, the third successor at the head of the Work, Mons. Fernando Ocáriz, will make a trip to some of those countries with the same purpose: to be with the faithful of the Work and so many other people who continue to give life to the charisma that the Founder spread then.

Chili: July 24-30

Bishop Ocáriz will begin his trip by visiting Chile. On June 28, 1974, Saint Josemaría arrived in the Andean country after having been in Argentina and before that Brazil. In one of the meetings he held with Chilean families, he encouraged them to “instill divine madness in others.”

Peru: July 30 - August 8

The next stop is Peru: the Father will land in Lima to spend several days in different parts of the country, close to the inhabitants "of the Empire of the Divine Sun", as Saint Josemaría called this land during his visit on July 9, 1974.

Colombia and Ecuador: August 8-19

The trip will continue through Colombia and Ecuador. Saint Josemaría arrived in Ecuador on August 1, 1974 and had planned to continue his trip with a stay in Colombia, but for health reasons he was only able to spend a few minutes in Bogotá, at the El Dorado Airport.

Venezuela: August 19-28

Finally, Bishop Ocáriz will spend ten days in Venezuela, a country that was also the last destination of the trip that the founder made 50 years ago, and to which he returned in 1975 to also visit his children in Guatemala.
