ENGLISH PHONETICS AND PHONOLOGY

IN COLLABORATION WITH THE AUTONOMOUS UNIVERSITY OF CHILE

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project COIL Autonomous University of Chile & University of Piura-Peru, carried out by the students in the subjects Phonetics and English Phonology (EFI) of the Udep and the Santiago, Talca and Temuco campuses of the UA, had the purpose of developing a learning module corresponding to the topic of Accentuation of Strong and Weak Forms and Inflections in the suprasegmental plane.

For its development, the following three phases were established: cultural exchange, where the students made an initial contact and exchanged impressions about their own reality; academic session, in which the teachers in charge presented the learning module on accentuation and inflections in their respective classes; and collaborative autonomous work, which consisted of the creation of a role play (Talk Show), evidencing the correct use of strong and weak forms, and the learned inflections. This experience was enriching for the teacher and the students because it allowed them understand the educational reality of foreign universities and use that knowledge in their own environment.
