The CEU Cardenal Herrera University is one of the three universities belonging to the San Pablo CEU Foundation, along with the Abat Oliba CEU University and the San Pablo CEU University. Although it was recognized by law as a private university (the first in the Valencian Community) in 1999, it had already been teaching as an affiliated center of the University of Valencia since the early 1970s. The CEU Cardenal Herrera has offices in the three provinces of the Valencian Community: Valencia, Castellón and Elche (Alicante).
