The Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg is a German public university recognized as one of the most prestigious in the country. Founded on December 10, 1402 as the “Würzburg Higher School”, it is positioned as the sixth university established in Germany and the first in Bavaria. Fourteen prominent Nobel laureates have conducted research and worked here.
The headquarters of the university's central administration, the foreign students office, and various research institutes are located in the historic area of the city. Its student population amounts to 27,092, of which more than 2,269 come from other countries.
